Degradation assessment of archaeological oak (<i>Quercus</i> spp.) buried under oxygen-limited condition

چکیده

Abstract The biological deterioration of archaeological wood under oxygen-limited conditions varies due to the limited activities microorganisms. It is essential expand knowledge degradation types and status monuments for selecting proper consolidates. physical, chemical, anatomical properties approximately 600–650 year old oak collected from an site in Iasi-Romania were analysed assess quality identify types. results compared with similar tests on recently-cut oak. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) revealed presence more lignin-related peaks oak, which likely reflected carbohydrates as evidenced by decreased oxygen-to-carbon ratio C ox / non-ox . differences cellulose crystallinity not significant suggesting that any occurred amorphous regions. This was also dynamic water vapor sorption analysis where isotherms hysteresis oaks marginal. Microscopic cells illustrated bacterial patterns, while field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) showed erosion bacteria low oxygen conditions.

Automated Condition Assessment of Buried Pipeline Using Computer Vision Techniques

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveys are used widely in North America to assess the structural integrity of underground pipes. The video images are examined visually and classified into grades according to degrees of damage. The human eye is extremely effective at recognition and classification, but it is not suitable for assessing pipe defects in thousand of miles of pipeline images due to...

Physiological attributes of microbial BTEX degradation in oxygen-limited environments.

Our work has focused on the determination of physiological traits that may facilitate in situ degradation of xenobiotic compounds by indigenous microorganisms. For this our interests center on the following questions: What are the ambient conditions in a benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX)-contaminated aquifer? What is the behavior of indigenous bacteria under these conditions? Wh...

ANOVELMONITORINGTECHNIQUE TO DEFINE CP CRITERIA FOR BURIED PIPELINES UNDER AC CORROSION CONDITION

Abstract: The risks of alternating current (AC) corrosion and overprotection increasingly demand new criteria forcathodically protected pipelines. To assess the risk of AC corrosion, new cathodic protection (CP) criteria have beenproposed based on DC/AC current densities measurements using coupons. The monitoring system designed for thisproject was based on the instant-off method, with steel co...

Oxygen transfer rate during the production of alginate by Azotobacter vinelandii under oxygen-limited and non oxygen-limited conditions

BACKGROUND The oxygen transfer rate (OTR) and dissolved oxygen tension (DOT) play an important role in determining alginate production and its composition; however, no systematic study has been reported about the independent influence of the OTR and DOT. In this paper, we report a study about alginate production and the evolution of the molecular mass of the polymer produced by a wild-type A. v...
